Multicultural Approach

This Is Your Life

Your journey is unique. I strive to honor and preserve your individual contribution to the world. My own intention is to see the world through your lens. My intention is enhanced by the lineage to which I belong as a therapist.

One of the founding fathers of modern therapeutic practice, Carl Rogers, advised: “The individual has within himself or herself vast resources for self-understanding, for altering his or her self-concept, attitudes and self-directed behavior–and … these resources can be tapped only if a definable climate of facilitative psychological attitudes can be provided.” Rogers invited therapists to view their clients with “unconditional, positive regard.” This intention guides me organically as I walk with you through places that might be regarded as shameful, painful, or mundane.

Focusing the session on the individual rather than the disorder or the treatment technique allows us to explore fully the unique landscape of your journey. You may have come to this country as an immigrant or may regard yourself as an “average American.” You may have been a traditional soccer mom or are a twenty something still in search of gender certainty. Perhaps you were adopted or were emotionally or literally abandoned by a parent when young. Whatever the twists in the road that set you apart from those on the road more travelled, you can be assured that I will navigate these with you compassionately. You have my unconditional positive regard starting right now as you read these words.
